Colorful Chalkware Bulldog
Chalkware bulldog in vibrant, modern-feeling tones. Chalkware, or molded products cast in plaster or gypsum, gained popularity during the Great Depression as they could be cheaply mass-produced. Colorful animals like this bulldog were given out as carnival prizes before the familiar massive stuffed animals took over their niche. I really like the carnival-prize era chalkware pieces, especially knowing the role they would have often played as a child’s prized possession in a time of global uncertainty.
